Son \u00ab drame oratorio \u00bb <em>Le Paradis perdu<\/em> ne parviendra jamais \u00e0 briser cette r\u00e9putation.<br>L\u2019oeuvre remporte le premier prix \u2013 ex-aequo avec <em>Le Tasse<\/em> de Benjamin Godard \u2013 d\u2019un concours lanc\u00e9 par la Ville de Paris en 1878 dans l\u2019espoir de cr\u00e9er un \u00e9lan patriotique et religieux chez les habitants de la capitale, encore marqu\u00e9s par la Commune.
